The researchers examined the effects that TMAO had on blood pressure levels. They gave TMAO to rats who had a genetic predisposition to high blood pressure. The rats were assessed for heart and kidney damage after 12 weeks and 56 weeks. They found that the rats’ condition improved after they had received TMAO therapy for one year.
